Understanding How Termites Act

Termites are social bugs that live in groups and eat things made of cellulose, like paper and wood. To get rid of termites successfully, you need to know how they act and what they like to do. Termites swarm when it’s warmer outside, looking for new places to nest. You can catch termite problems early if you know when and where to look for them.

Signs That You Have Termites

Finding termite infestations early is very important for keeping harm to a minimum. Keep an eye out for these signs.

Mud Tubes

Termites build mud tubes to keep themselves safe and keep the soil wet. Look for these near the base of your house.

Wood That Sounds empty

If you tap on a piece of wood and it sounds empty, it could mean that termites have damaged it.

Lost Wings

Termites lose their wings after swarming. Termites have been active if you find wings that have been thrown away.

Regular Checks

The best thing to do is to keep ants away. To catch termite infestations early, plan to have checks once a year. Termites love it when wood meets the ground; get rid of any wood that is touching the ground. Do not put wood piles near the base of your house.

Termite-Resistant Materials

If you are building or remodeling your home, you might want to use materials that are resistant to termites.

Ways to Get Rid of Termites

When termites come in, you need to act quickly. Big Red Gold Coast offers a number of successful ways to get rid of termites, including: Chemical Barriers: A barrier is made when liquid termiticides are used to keep termites out of your home. Baiting Systems: Termite bait stations keep termites away from your home, which gets rid of the whole population. Fumigation: Fumigation may be needed to get rid of termites in serious infestations.

How do I prepare for a pest management spray

Where possible the morning of our attendance, move furniture and belongings away from walls. The more area we can access and spray, the better. Pre-vacuum carpeted areas and pre-wash tiled areas. If you would like us to spray within kitchen and bathroom cupboards, please remove all items in cupboards under the benches and the last shelf in pantry. These items can be placed on top of the benches and replaced when chemical is dry inside cupboards. Please wipe out cupboards that have been emptied before we arrive as they will remove all pheromones. Cover all food items and all food utensils prior to treatment as directed. Remove all hanging washing from clotheslines and remove any shoes, children’s toys, pet food and water prior to external treatment. Close all doors and windows during any external treatment and keep closed until the treatment has dried (This could take up to 2 hours).
